"Quote" Halifax police have made an arrest in the December 2005 killing of Beechville schoolteacher Paula Gallant. The RCMP/regional police integrated major crime unit announced the development in a brief press release Tuesday morning. The note didn't indicate who'd been arrested, but said they nabbed the person earlier in the morning. Halifax Chronicle Herald

"Quote" A clump of hair left at a crime scene 23 years ago helped send a killer to prison Monday, bringing to a close one of the city's most notorious cold cases. Charles William Abou, who eluded police for more than two decades, admitted in provincial court he broke into Lillian Berube's home on Aug. 27, 1987, beat her and left her to die.
